It all began in Perth as a child of Vietnamese boat refugees

My parents met as boat refugees, fleeing the aftermath of the Vietnam War. They survived nearly a week adrift in the open ocean, with little food and almost no fresh water. We grew up in Marangaroo, a northern suburb of Perth often associated with new migrants—and sometimes, with crime. Though we didn’t have much, my father would always remind us how rich we were in opportunities here in Australia, especially the opportunity of education...

Today, AchieveAble represents my passion for helping Aussie kids reach their potential

Partnering with the University of Melbourne’s InnovatEd team, we worked to explore and test new approaches to the educational problem, with 1 in 3 children failing to meet NAPLAN maths and English standards.

AchieveAble is inspired by my parents sacrifice and offers an innovative approach to educational support.

Education changed my life, and my mission is to support other children to realise their potential, even if they cannot see it yet.

As the child of boat refugees, education transformed my life—from a disadvantaged migrant community to a career in finance. But my schooling relied on rote learning and long nights of study. In 2023, I left corporate life to launch AchieveAble, helping kids build brighter futures without sacrificing their wellbeing today.

Education changed my life and my opportunities

My father was actually a high school mathematics teacher back in Vietnam, and although he wasn't qualified to teach in Australia, he was definately was able to teach his three children. My childhood memories consisted of extra English and Maths lessons as soon as I came home. While not exactly thrilling for a child, looking back that investment in education supported me into a selective school outside of my catchment area, scholarships to University (including the prestigious Westpac Future Leaders scholarship) and becoming a Finance & Strategy professional with a qualification as a Chartered Accountant.

The pivot from corporate to teaching it forward

Driven by a passion for education, I pivoted from a corporate career to create a more meaningful impact in education. In 2018, I founded Elucidate Education, a charity empowering university students to support STEM learning for disadvantaged regional WA students through online platforms and rural outreach. In 2023, I received a scholarship to complete a Master of Entrepreneurship, going all in to explore a new approach to educational support that eventually led to AchieveAble.
